The client

Tempest is a start-up that builds internet privacy-focused solutions, including search engines, browsers, and VPNs. Their mission is to deliver the best possible experience by protecting users' online activities from ads and trackers.

The goal

Primary objective was to provide expert backend engineering support to enhance the capabilities of Tempest's WikiCard feature. This included increasing data coverage, maintaining the project, fixing recurring bugs, and extending the service to other markets.

The outcome

We provided and integrated two full-time backend engineers to Tempest, ensuring smooth integration and high retention. The engineers continuously improved data parsers, resulting in richer infocards and a better user experience on Tempest’s Search Page.

SOLUTION

The WikiCard Challenge

Tempest's WikiCard feature, which displays concise, relevant information from Wikipedia in response to user searches, faced numerous issues due to the variety of languages and content parsed from Wikipedia.

The inconsistencies and frequent bugs stemming from these variations significantly impacted the user experience, necessitating a more stable and reliable solution.

To tackle this problem, COXIT provided Tempest with Senior Python Engineer Yehor, who took on the challenge of maintaining and developing the WikiCard project.
