The client Xperi Inc. is an American multinational technology company that develops software for consumer electronics and connected cars, as well as media platforms for video service over broadband. The goal Xperi required a partner who could provide engineers on demand, ensuring quick onboarding and offboarding, covering risks, and allowing Xperi engineering managers to work with these talents as seamlessly as with their employees. The outcome Over four years, COXIT staffed 14 developers, screened 426 candidates, and facilitated the smooth transition to a scalable, real-time data handling infrastructure.
Entertainment Ecosystem Over Millions of Cars, TVs, and Devices. Even Faster with a Reliable Partner Xperi, a global leader in entertainment technology, has a rich history of innovation, creating extraordinary experiences through sight and sound. They are the driving force behind renowned brands like DTS, HD Radio, and TiVo, enriching consumers’ interaction with audio and visual content across various platforms. The Xperi’s ambitious vision for the future, particularly in the automotive sector, demanded a modern, cloud-based infrastructure that could handle real-time data processing, seamless integration with diverse devices, and personalized user experiences.
It all began with giving the old good car radio a 21st-century facelift Xperi's flagship project, DTS AutoStage, aimed to revolutionize the in-car radio experience. The goal was to develop an API allowing car manufacturers to access a rich metadata database about songs, artists, radio stations, and local events. This would enable a more interactive and personalized listening experience for drivers and passengers, with features like real-time song information, artist images, lyrics, and location-based event recommendations.
The collaboration between Xperi and COXIT began as a contribution from Iryna Mykytyn, COXIT founder and backend engineer. Eventually, the client got confident in Iryna’s work and trusted her to find more people, which led to COXIT's C++, Python, Postgres, Google Cloud Platform, Docker, and Kubernetes professionals getting on board.
//Rich Bowen, Sr.Manager of Software Development COXIT consistently responds quickly when I have a job opening to discuss, and quickly finds candidates for me to interview. The candidates аre consistently well matched to the required qualifications, including technical and English communications skills; and the rates charged by COXIT are well matched to the value I receive.
From the gig to a close-knit partnership Xperi needed contractors constantly, yet, hiring new employees was expensive, risky, and time-consuming. Iryna, their reliable contractor for three years, suggested onboarding developers for 6-month gigs. Though Xperi has tried larger outsourcing companies before, they missed personalized attention and responsiveness, and Iryna’s suggestion looked like a good alternative.
//Rich Bowen, Sr.Manager of Software Development I have short term (one- to two-year) needs for additional engineers with specific skills for certain projects. Working with a vendor like COXIT allows me to fill those needs just for that period of time, usually with the option of extending those contracts if the project runs longer than planned.
15 developers staffed to Xperi over 3 years of collaboration. To provide top talent, COXIT screened 426 candidates for these positions
Contributing to a code that livens up millions of auto screens Throughout the collaboration, COXIT demonstrated its ability to adapt to Xperi's evolving needs. As the project grew in scope and complexity, COXIT scaled its team, adding expertise in data engineering, DevOps, and front-end development. The success of the DTS AutoStage project is proved by its widespread adoption by leading car manufacturers like BMW and Tesla. Drivers and passengers worldwide can now enjoy a more engaging in-car radio experience, thanks to the rich media data and advanced features brought by Xperi's technology and COXIT's support.
One of the notable contributions was finding people to migrate Xperi's massive database of song metadata from on-premise servers to the cloud. COXIT's data engineers and DevOps specialists worked under Xperi's managers to ensure a smooth transition, minimizing downtime and maintaining data integrity. In parallel, COXIT's developers began working on the core components of the DTS AutoStage API, designing a reliable and scalable architecture that could handle real-time data requests from millions of vehicles worldwide. They also developed SDKs (Software Development Kits) in C++ and Android to simplify the API integration into various car media systems.
A rewarding cooperation for COXIT, a smooth ride for the Xperi The collaboration between Xperi and COXIT has entered a new phase, focusing on the continued development for the Xperis projects, including DTS AutoStage, Tivo, Rapid and other projects. Obviously, this scale of projects requires way more than 2-3 developers, but this is no problem with COXIT. Now, whenever the Xperi team needs more hands on deck, they have a partner that supplies expert vetted talent, fast. This long-term partnership has allowed Xperi to focus on its core strengths – innovation, creativity, and delivering exceptional entertainment experiences – while COXIT provides the technical backbone and expertise to bring those visions to life.
